Take the next step in your professional development — get ready to apply for a fully funded FATES Scholarship to complete the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education

RANZCR has received funding from FATES 4 (the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing) to provide (12) scholarships for RANZCR fellows, and advanced trainees to further their skills in medical education. The program is intended to increase supervision capabilities at non-metropolitan training sites, with priority given to Fellows located in MMM zones 2 to 7 and First Nations Fellows.

We’re committed to strengthening supervision and training in regional and rural areas, helping to support and grow the next generation of radiologists and radiation oncologists.

Successful applicants will be funded to complete a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education. This certificate provides healthcare professionals with advanced expertise in teaching, supervision, and the development of clinical education programs. Through this scholarship, support is directed to those clinical educators most likely to make a lasting impact on clinical education and, ultimately, on the quality of patient care in Clinical Radiology and Radiation Oncology.

Applications are open to:

  • All RANZCR Fellows residing and working in Australia
  • RANZCR Trainees in the final phase of training residing and working in Australia
  • Fellows and trainees working in Modified Monash Model (MMM) zones 2 to 7

Selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in clinical teaching, supervision and/or assessment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical education, shown through past contributions to clinical teaching and career aspirations to continue and/or expand their clinical educator role
  • Commitment to applying the knowledge gained from undertaking the course of study in clinical education to benefit trainees, the workplace and the Speciality in the regional and or rural setting.

If you’re looking to enhance your clinical education skills, connect with peers, and make an impact in your community, we’d love to hear from you.

Undertaking the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education counts as a CPD activity under the RANZCR CPD Program.

About the Program

The Flexible Approach to Training in Expanded Settings (FATES) program funds non-general practitioner specialist medical training approaches. It aims to broaden the skills of the specialist workforce, bring more specialists to regional areas, and ensure all Australians can access high-quality care.

The FATES program is an annual Grant Opportunity for specialist medical colleges over four years from 2021 – 2025. FATES offers an innovative funding pool to encourage projects that support:

  • flexible specialist training
  • training support
  • accreditation practices.

FATES will fund grant proposals from specialist medical colleges that develop training approaches for non-general practitioner specialist medical trainees, for activities that focus on:

  • increasing focus and support for rural training
  • rebalancing specialist supply and distribution through medical training
  • supporting the growth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specialist medical trainees and service delivery
  • supporting specialists to transitioning to work in rural and remote practice.

FATES complements the Specialist Training Program, and supports implementation of the National Medical Workforce Strategy.
