New Zealand Registrar Recruitment

The New Zealand Branch facilitates the centralised recruitment of all clinical radiology registrars on behalf of the RANZCR accredited training sites.

Applications are now open for 2020.

Notification to prospective applicants for the Clinical Radiology and the Radiation Oncology training programmes – COVID 19

Thank you for your interest in the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologist’s (the College’s) training programs.

The New Zealand Government’s response to the COVID-19 virus continues to evolve daily. Despite this, the College is making every effort to ensure minimum disruption to our members and prospective trainees.

Recruitment for the clinical radiology training program is proceeding as scheduled.  All applications must be received by noon on 6 May 2020.

Despite our intention to proceed with the standard recruitment process, including interviews, alternative contingency plans are being made to cover a range of eventualities, including ongoing social distancing, travel restrictions and strain to New Zealand’s healthcare system. Any change to plans will be communicated to applicants.

To ease your concerns, please be advised:

  • In the unlikely event that the recruitment process does not go ahead at all in 2020, you will be refunded the application fee.
  • Given the current circumstances, any unsuccessful applications for the 2020 intake will not be counted as an application attempt. (Generally, applicants are limited to 3 attempts.)

The Recruitment Process

  1. Eligible applications are ranked by all participating training centres and an interview shortlist is drawn up. Interviews are conducted in Auckland in June.
  2. After the interviews, all applicants will be ranked in order of merit and matched to a District Health Board (DHB) with a vacant training position. RANZCR will then recommend to the matched DHBs that they accept the matched applicants as employees.
  3. Successful applicants will have their CV, references, application form and documents sent directly to the matched DHB. The DHB will then apply their specific checking criteria to the application, and may require the successful applicant to complete an internal DHB application form.
  4. Offers of employment from the DHBs are released in late July each year. The successful applicants and the relevant DHBs then negotiate and sign a mutually acceptable employment contract.
