The Mammography Quality Assurance Program (MQAP) provides quality assurance assessment for mammography sites. Participation is open to private medical imaging practices, and medical imaging departments of public and private hospitals. The MQAP has been declared under Commonwealth Qualified Privilege.
Quality control and quality assurance testing requirements are documented in the RANZCR Guidelines for Quality Control Testing for Digital Mammography for Computed Radiography (CR) and Digital Radiography (DR) sites.
The MQAP operates on a three-year cycle. Participation is machine-specific; sites operating more than one mammography machine need to make an application for each machine.
First year: Practice undergoes accreditation of a new unit (or reaccreditation of a current unit)Requirements include the assessment of clinical and physics materials by expert mammography radiologists and mammography-accredited medical physicists.
Second year: First Annual ReviewMammography-accredited physicists assess the quality control data and physics materials submitted by the site.
Third year: Second Annual ReviewMammography-accredited physicists assess the quality control data and physics materials submitted by the site.
For details of current fees relating to MQAP see College Fees page.
Practices wishing to participate in the MQAP need to complete the application form and return to the College with payment.
