Join us at the ASM: Digital health and the future of radiology and image access

As healthcare continues to evolve, the use of digital health technologies is becoming essential for providing high-quality, patient-focused care. Clinical radiology stands at the leading edge of this digital shift, having been a pioneer in adopting cutting-edge technologies for over 40 years. Yet, as we transition toward a more integrated and interoperable healthcare system, new challenges and opportunities are emerging.

At this year’s RANZCR 2025 ASM, we invite all attendees to learn more by attending the Digital Health ASM session, Beyond the image: Defining Radiology’s Digital Future. This session will deliver key updates on national digital health initiatives shaping the future of radiology including:

  • Health Connect Australia, which will pave the way for seamless, secure sharing of diagnostic imaging across the country and enable healthcare providers to view imaging faster and more efficiently, no matter where they were taken
  • My Health Record – Share by Default requirements, designed to improve access to key health information to support clinical care and empower consumers with better and faster access to their health data, including through more timely access to their pathology and radiology reports in My Health Record
  • highlights from both Australia and New Zealand’s progress and challenges in building connected healthcare environments

Attendees will gain insights from clinical and industry leaders who will discuss the evolving landscape of image exchange, share findings from recent stakeholder survey and workshops, and outline the next steps towards comprehensive national image access.

Session Name: Beyond the image: Defining Radiology’s Digital Future

Session Time: 10.30-12.30pm Friday 24 October room 102

We are proud to have the support of the Australian Digital Health Agency who are also exhibiting at the upcoming RANZCR 2025 ASM Booth 102. We encourage you to visit the booth and explore how digital health is transforming the radiology sector, driven by two key digital health initiatives: Sharing by Default legislation and Health Connect Australia.

The Agency team will be on hand to discuss key initiatives including Health Connect Australia, which is paving the way for seamless, secure sharing of diagnostic imaging across the country. The team will also be available to discuss the work being done on national image access, enabling healthcare providers to view imaging faster and more efficiently, no matter where they were taken.

Learn more about Sharing by Default requirements, designed to improve access to key health information to support clinical care and empower consumers with better and faster access to their health data, including through more timely access to their radiology and pathology reports in My Health Record.

They’d love to hear your thoughts and share how they are working to make digital health more connected, accessible, and consumer-focused.

Explore what Sharing by Default means for the radiology sector

Improving access to health information in My Health Record is at the heart of recent reforms to Australia’s digital health landscape. The new Sharing by Default legislation aims to modernise healthcare, delivering more timely and comprehensive information for providers and consumers alike.

These changes respond to recommendations from the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce Report and were announced in May 2023. The Australian Parliament then passed the Health Legislation Amendment (Modernising My Health Record – Sharing by Default) Bill 2024, setting out new requirements for providers.

Healthcare providers, starting with those delivering pathology and diagnostic imaging services, will be required to upload reports to My Health Record by default. In future, other types of reports or documents may be included in the upload requirement.
