Join Us at the 2025 Targeting Cancer Fun Run

Raising Awareness of Radiation Therapy and Celebrating Community

The Targeting Cancer Fun Run returns in 2025, taking place along Melbourne’s iconic Yarra River during the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists’ Annual Scientific Meeting (RANZCR ASM) on Saturday, 25 October 2025.

More than a fitness event, the Targeting Cancer Fun Run is an opportunity for health professionals, patients, carers, researchers, and the broader community to unite in support of radiation therapy as a safe, effective, and essential component of cancer treatment.

A Shared Purpose

Each year, the Targeting Cancer Fun Run brings together participants from across Australia and New Zealand to promote awareness of radiation therapy and the vital work done every day in cancer care and research.

It also provides a moment to connect outside the RANZCR’s ASM - fostering wellbeing, collegiality, and community spirit.

Dr Gemma Larkin, Radiation Oncology Trainee said, “This year’s ASM theme is ‘pushing boundaries’. To me, that means getting uncomfortable for a good cause. I’ll be embracing this by waking up uncomfortably early and pushing to the finish line to raise awareness for targeting cancer, and for the coffee cart!”

Wendy Frazer, Senior Manager, Education Services, Training and Lifelong Learning Unit at RANZCR said, “Whether running or walking the Targeting Cancer Fun Run it’s such a great opportunity to get out and be active before another big ASM day. This year continues the recent tradition of the Targeting Cancer Fun Run being along the great rivers of our cities, Brisbane, Swan and now the Yarra.”

Why This Event Matters

Raising awareness – Radiation therapy remains one of the most precise and effective cancer treatments available, yet it is often under-recognised. The Fun Run helps highlight its critical role in saving lives, improving outcomes, and enhancing quality of life for people with cancer.

Building community – By bringing together clinicians, trainees, health professionals, patients, and supporters, the Fun Run strengthens the collective effort to improve cancer care and research.

Advocacy and visibility – Held alongside RANZCR’s Annual Scientific Meeting, the event provides a visible platform to showcase the Targeting Cancer campaign and its advocacy of radiation therapy as a treatment option for cancer.

Wellbeing and connection – The Fun Run also reminds participants that health and healing extend beyond clinical practice. Beginning the day with fresh air, movement, and shared purpose reinforces the human side of cancer care.
