Expressions of interest are being called for the National Lung Cancer Screening Working Group

If you are interested in screening programs or health outcomes for those at risk of lung cancer, this is your opportunity to get involved with a groundbreaking project.

Expressions of interest are being called for radiologists to join the RANZCR and ANZSTR National Lung Cancer Screening Working Group, subcommittees and the ANZSTR executive membership.

Overview

In July 2025, the Australian Government will start a national lung cancer screening (LCS) program, intended to service current or recent ex-smokers of a defined risk profile to enable early detection and treatment of lung cancer. The program aims to reach 5.3% of the national population (more than 1 in 20 people) and modelling predicts, during the first year of screening, an increase in radiology workload of 227 CT scans per working radiologist (Deakin University, 2022). New Zealand is also working towards a lung cancer screening program.

The LCS program is expected to be finalised in 2024.
