The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) will host the 71st Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) on a virtual basis for the first time on Thursday 16th - Sunday 19th September 2021.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) is excited to announce today that five junior doctors and medical students will receive the inaugural ASM Grant.

Launched in July 2021, the inaugural RANZCR ASM Grant Program supports Indigenous junior doctors and medical students to extend their knowledge and interest in the professions of Clinical Radiology and Radiation Oncology. The grant program is a key action that delivers on RANZCR’s on-going commitment to equitable health outcomes for Māori, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples through supporting medical practitioners from these communities.

Elysium – what is our 2021 theme all about?

Elysium or the Elysian Fields is a mythical Greek paradise reserved for the most righteous and heroic, where they would live a blessed and happy life of immortality, indulging in whatever employment and enjoyments they had in life.

The stories and myths of Elysium have always existed in human history. Now, we are seeing these stories realised. The future of Radiology and Radiation Oncology, will be an Elysium, where tools currently in development (and tools already in use) will diagnose and cure disease so that we can live a long, healthy and happy life. We are already seeing technology capable of doing this now. Artificial intelligence AI will augment human intelligence, emotion and intuition to provide the most accurate theranostics. Soon this will become common practice.

Radiology and radiation oncology have always been at the forefront of technology adoption in healthcare, and our professions are ever-evolving through transformative and disruptive technologies. RANZCR 2021 will showcase emerging trends in radiology and radiation oncology, AI software, hardware, regulatory, industry perspectives, practice and patient outcomes.

So while it is expected that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will create another paradigm shift over the next 10 years, it will be our specialists who are best positioned to lead this transition. Having worked with disruptive, technology-driven tools and practice since they were first established, Radiology and Radiation Oncology will embody the vision of an Elysium at the 2021 RANZCR Virtual ASM.
