RANZCR has been planning for a range of potential scenarios to try to run the ASM safely in person in Melbourne this September, but our over-riding priority throughout has been the health and wellbeing of all participants at the ASM.
The RANZCR Board met on Friday 13 August and a decision was made to convert this year’s ASM to a completely virtual event with no in person attendance. Several factors were considered, health and safety of attendees, the likelihood of cross-border travel, community transmission in Victoria at present, and the member experience of a scaled back in-person ASM.
As it was planned as a hybrid event, we can covert to an exclusive online event and transfer delegate tickets to a virtual registration, while continuing to offer all the same fantastic scientific program content and speaker presentations that would have been available in person.
Delegates who have already purchased an in-person registration will automatically convert to a virtual registration, which we hope you will maintain and acknowledge the work of all committee members in developing this program. Over the next month we will continue to prepare an inclusive and engaging online experience, extending well-beyond a computer screen. The virtual program will offer the full program including invited guest speakers, breakout sessions and more. Delegates attending the virtual event will have the opportunity to determine their own agenda from the live or on-demand content.
In addition, we are working on social networking activities to allow delegates to engage and connect during the ASM - we know this is a big part of the annual scientific meeting. As part of this we are organising some special home deliveries for attendees and hope to connect online and over social media very soon!
