President Clin A/Prof Sanjay Jeganathan Discusses the Iodinated Contrast Media Shortage

President Clin A/Prof Sanjay JeganathanRANZCR President Clin A/Prof Sanjay Jeganathan, was interviewed by The Australian about the iodinated contrast media shortage in Australia.

Clin A/Prof Jeganathan said such shortages are, unfortunately, the nature of today's medical industry due to COVID-19 lockdowns and the impact on supply chains.

“While the supply limits vary from jurisdiction, this is a problem all over Australia. Hospitals are having to ration supplies, delay scans and use alternative testing methods,” he said.

Clin A/Prof Jeganathan expressed his concern that patients would delay seeing doctors due to the current shortage which could compound existing delays in treatment. He stated that the College is in ongoing communication with its members, hospitals and the TGA with recommendations on how to judiciously manage patients at this extremely difficult time.
