The Commonwealth Department of Health has confirmed that the new Expression of Interest (EOI) will open for the Specialist Training Program (STP) at 9am (AEDT), Wednesday 17 October 2018, and close at 5pm (AEDT) Tuesday 20 November 2018.
Links and instructions will be published on the Department’s website when the EOI goes live.
The STP aims to improve the quality of the future specialist workforce by providing exposure to a broader range of healthcare settings, such as in regional and private facilities.
The intent of the EOI is for settings to express an interest in the program and if found suitable, the sites will be placed on the College’s reserve list. The reserve list can be utilised to fill posts when new positions become available. Placement on the reserve list does not guarantee funding.
The College strongly encourages sites who are interested in increasing the number of training posts through this program to start preparing the appropriate information ahead of the EOI. This includes undertaking discussions at the network or branch level to identify future training opportunities. New sites looking to attain accreditation and join a network must review College accreditation documents prior to submitting an application.
State and Territory Health Departments, local hospital networks, regional hospitals and the private sector are all eligible to submit an EOI. Successful sites from the prior 2016/2018 EOIs are currently approved for the reserve list and will remain eligible up until 2020. Approved sites are not required to reapply.
Sites applying for funding must ensure trainee rotations in the STP posts are for a minimum of three month blocks. For more information on eligibility, please view the DoH STP Operational Framework.
