The Commonwealth Department of Health (DoH) has now confirmed a further Expression of Interest (EOI) online process for new Specialist Training Program (STP) positions (excluding Integrated Rural Training Pipeline Positions) will open in late September 2018, for six weeks. The STP aims to support the rotation of medical specialist trainees through an expanded training setting, such as rural and private training sites.
Links and instructions will be published on the DoH website prior to the EOI commencing.
The College strongly advises any sites interested in increasing the number of training posts through this program, or new sites looking to attain accreditation and join a network, to start preparing the appropriate information ahead of the EOI. This would include undertaking discussions at a network or branch level, and reviewing College accreditation documents which can be found on our website. State and Territory Health Departments, local hospital networks, regional hospitals and private health care organisations/settings are all eligible to submit an EOI.
Sites applying for funding must ensure trainee rotations in the STP posts are for a minimum of three months. For more information on eligibility, please view the DoH STP Operational Framework.
The intent of the EOI is for settings to express an interest and if found suitable, the sites will be placed on the College’s reserve list. The reserve list can be utilised to fill posts when vacancies become available. Placement on the reserve list does not guarantee funding.
Successful sites from the 2016/2018 EOI are currently approved for the reserve list and will remain eligible up until 2020. Approved sites are not required to apply again in the new EOI.
