Specialist Training Program EOI process expected to open in early 2018

The Australian Department of Health’s (DoH) Specialist Training Programme (STP) aims to support the rotation of medical specialist trainees through an expanded training setting, such as rural and private training sites.

The DoH recently committed to funding the successful STP from 2018 to 2020 and has outlined a significant increase in the number of positions funded within the College. As a result, the College anticipates the expression of interest (EOI) process to open in March or April 2018 with a date and the process yet to be yet to be confirmed.

A previous online Expression of Interest was carried out and closed on 30 November 2016. The successful sites were notified in early 2017 and many are still on the current reserve list. Any site who is on the reserve list will not need to apply in the new EOI and will remain eligible up until 2020. To clarify, whether the site is on the reserve list or your site’s eligibility to apply, please contact Chris Bartley at This email address is being protected from spambots. State and Territory Health Departments, local hospital networks and regional hospitals and private health care organisations/private health care settings are eligible to submit an EOI.

The College strongly advises any sites interested in increasing the number of training posts through this programme or new sites looking to attain accreditation and join a network to start preparing the appropriate information ahead of the EOI. This would include undertaking discussions at a network or branch level and reviewing College accreditation documents which can be found on our website.
