The RANZCR submission detailed the availability and delivery of safe and high-quality imaging services to South Australian patients, training a sustainable workforce and safe care and reasonable workloads.

Seven recommendations were made including;

  • Using the Quality Framework and Medicare requirements when considering any changes to the model of delivery of medical imaging services
  • Where teleradiology services are used, contracts should stipulate compliance with RANCR’s Standards of Practice for Teleradiology
  • Utilization of teleradiology services be limited so that they complement and support clinical radiologist training
  • Any outsourcing of radiology services needs to account for registrar training and registrar supervision
  • Any outsourcing of medical imaging services stipulates a set number of trainees and compliance with our accreditation standards
  • That clinical radiology services meet expected industry standards and adequate resourcing to invest in new technology and maintain existing imaging equipment
  • That the South Australian Government works closely with RANZCR to understand problems in recruitment and retention of clinical radiologists and trainees to sustain and grow the local clinical radiologist workforce.
